What Three Things Can Help You Choose A Co-working Space?

If you are starting a company or have an idea that might eventually lead to one, then co-working may be the best option for you. Even if your business is already off the ground and running, having a professional space with like-minded people will help make your company more efficient. Keep these three things in mind as you search for your perfect co-working space because it can make all the difference between success and failure.

1) Community Matters

Whether you know this about yourself or not, everyone has an innate desire to work with other people; there’s something therapeutic about exchanging ideas, sharing information, and talking through problems together. A successful startup needs both capital, which investors provide (to some degree), and community to give you what you can’t buy. Co-working spaces provide a place for members to escape the isolation of working at home and work with other, like-minded individuals that they can bounce ideas off of or even team up with if a project calls for a partner. Unfortunately, not all co-working spaces are created equal, so make sure you ask around before committing to one!

2) Location

Consider what type of clients your business might attract as well as where those clients will find you. A storefront or office space in an upscale part of town is going to make it easier to land bigger clients who do business on main streets and pay higher rates than those who work from home and spend their days in more remote areas. Also consider how close your potential coworkers are to your industry; the closer they are, the easier it will be for you to brainstorm with them.

When surveying locations, look for what is nearby and how easily people can get there. Do you need parking? Will people find it difficult or inconvenient to visit? A less than ideal location might just mean more work for your staff, so make sure that any place you choose is one that facilitates productivity!

3) Amenities

Co-working spaces aren’t just places where entrepreneurs go to share ideas; they also provide valuable resources like printers/copy machines, teleconference rooms (if included in rent), mailboxes, even bulk supplies like printer paper and toner. However, some amenities matter more than others depending on your business. For instance, if you are a web developer or designer, having access to high-speed internet is crucial, but it’s only useful for an art gallery if there’s parking nearby. Take stock of what your company needs and look for these amenities in the spaces that interest you.

8 Ways to Get Freelancers to Join Your Co-working Space

Although it is unclear whether co-working spaces will one day supplant traditional offices, one thing is certain: the concept of shared workstations has a bright future ahead of it. Nonetheless, attracting new clients may be difficult for a newly established co-working space. While private offices are usually the easiest to fill because they can be sold to corporate clients and startups, hot desk rentals can be difficult to fill. Let us think about how we can attract independent professionals to your venue.
